Sept. 18, 2005
Dear Parents,
Thank you for participating in the Corpus Christi Cathedral’s religious education program. We want to welcome you and your family to the new school year. This letter is to inform you about our program and provide some general information.
Our goal in CFM is to further assist parents (who are the first catechists) in teaching the children about our faith. During each class, the catechists will focus on the weekly scripture, learn Catholic prayers, and study the Catholic Catechism. They will follow the liturgical calendar, with regards to the various seasons and feast days. The children will take lesson sheets regarding the Sunday’s Gospel teachings. Our goal is to assist families in rereading the Gospel lessons and discussing these as a family. Additionally, each grade level will request memory work (i.e. new prayers, mysteries of the Rosary, etc.) and assignments and initial daily prayer worksheets. This is especially important in grades K, 1st, and 2nd grade, and children in the RCIA program for children as they begin the preparation phase for receiving the Sacraments of the First Penance and Holy Eucharist by the end of 2nd or (in some cases) 3rd grade or when children become ready in the RCIA program.
We are highly encouraging our families to attend the 12:15 Mass since this particular Mass is geared for children with the Liturgy of the Word session for children.
Parents we are in the process of developing a website for our ministry so that you can keep you informed of class dates, lesson updates, upcoming feast days, meeting dates, etc.
As soon as we do this, we will send you a notice so that you can visit that site.
Please speak with your children regarding behavior. We have a very short period of time to teach so many lessons. Therefore, we are asking your assistance in helping your children understand the importance of good behavior so that the focus can be centered on their lessons. Our classes will meet from 10:45 to 12:00. Children who are altar servers for the 12:15 Mass will be dismissed early. Please let us know your child’s schedule. Students who are in youth choir will be dismissed at 11:40 so that they fulfill their obligations and practice before our 12:15 Mass.
If you have a question or need information, please do not hesitate to call the office at 883-4213. Thank you and may God bless your family as we continue to spread the Good News.
Sincerely,
CFM Coordinators Mrs. Alma Cochran Mrs. Mary Christmas Mrs. Norma Torres
