POLICY FOR PHOTOGRAPHER

A Christian Marriage is a sacred event celebrating not only the commitment of a man and a woman to love each other, but also Christ’s commitment to be a part of this union. For Catholics the wedding ceremony is usually celebrated within the context of the Eucharist, the sacrificial meal of Jesus’ love. In some circumstances the ceremony may be celebrated within a Liturgy of God’s Word, the Sacred Scriptures. In order to respect both the nature of the Liturgy of Marriage and the Liturgy of the Word and Eucharist, the Cathedral Parish enforces a strict policy for photographers. Your adherence to the following guidelines is greatly appreciated:

  • If the ceremony is to be videotaped, the camera must remain in a fixed location. Please consult the diagram on the reverse side of this page for acceptable locations for placing video equipment.
  • Sanctuary furniture may not be moved for any reason.
  • Still photographs of the procession are permitted from the designated location illustrated on the reverse side of this page.
  • Please do not obstruct the movement of the bridal procession at any time.
  • During the ceremony, still photographers are free to take photographs from the rear of the Cathedral, the choir loft or along the sides of the sanctuary.
  • Please do not approach the area of the altar or photograph from behind the altar. Additionally, the Sanctuary furniture is not to be used for still photographs at any time; its use is reserved solely for clergy.
  • Photographs may be taken before guests arrive and after the ceremony. Please be aware that there are other functions that occur within the Cathedral after wedding liturgies. In order to facilitate clearing the Cathedral of the wedding party and guests for these other events, please limit the time for photographs after the ceremony to 15-30 minutes.
  • The priest or deacon may pose for any photographs with the wedding party, but please arrange for these to be taken first.
  • Photographers should dress in a manner befitting the occasion, and must observe the proper decorum in the House of God; i.e., silence, respect and reverence. Please try to be as inconspicuous as possible, and keep movement to a minimum.
  • No tape, adhesive materials, nails or tacks may be used on the carpet, pews or woodwork.
  • Questions regarding these guidelines may be directed to the Wedding Coordinator (Cathy Patterson, at 880-7721), any time prior to the ceremony.
  • Any photographer or video technician who becomes disruptive or in any way violates these guidelines will be invited to leave.
